CNN.com – Court issues split decision on affirmative action – Jun. 23, 2003

WASHINGTON (CNN) — The U.S. Supreme Court delivered a landmark decision Monday, ruling that the University of Michigan law school may give preferential treatment to minorities in the admission process.

However, the high court overturned the publicly funded school’s undergraduate policy under which a point system gave specific “weight” to minority applicants.
